As I get old I love to see (hear?) folks use the language of my/our youth (Yoot for those the love movies). Souped up is a great term as is 3/4 cam!!! I got to wondering this morning about the "soup" term and thought maybe it was the wrong spelling vs supe. But as happens quite often, I was wrong again (just ask my better 7/8ths);

We didn't use 3/4 cam in our lingo, it was always 3/4 race. If you were really crazy you went full race! There was never a spec mentioned. No lift @ .050 or duration or anything else.

Fun stuff, thanks for using the terminology. I will now go back to daydreaming about my misspent Yoot.

My second language is Pittsburghese; I grew up in Western PA. The dialect is a dead give-a-way. How many of these words are automotive related, I don’t know. I now hang with a bunch of Romeos (Retired Old Men Eating Out); an old-age car club. It’s enjoyable to hear the lexicon of your yoot, but sadly these words will soon fade away.

Hi folks,

I have the 272 y-block running. Made some test drives today. Still waiting for the accelerator linkage. I improvised with a simple setup (disconnecting the kick down) to get the engine running. Next steps are installing the new exhaust system and the accelerator linkage.
Here a short video:

Sounds great! May you have continued good luck!

Just an FYI.... The heater hose that goes to the valve on top of the engine is supposed to go along the firewall, there should be a hook for it there and then under the coil and behind the valve cover. When I got my 55 two years ago I found a Ford paper detailing where the hose goes. I can post it here when I get to my desktop.

Thanks for the advice, Abe! I‘ll try to route the hose that way then.

That way it won't lay on the valve cover.

Here is the Ford publication I found in the glove box of my 55. The hose should actually be closer to the coil as they don't show the carb in this drawing.

Hi folks,

when I installed the new 272 in the truck, I had to improvise with the throttle linkage. The 239 that was mounted in the truck before, had a complete different linkage. So I just fixed the linkage from the trannie (kick-down linkage or throttle control rod) by screwing it to a brace on the engine and mounting only a accelerator connection link to get the truck running. That way, I can't make a kick-down but can drive the truck nonetheless. But now I've got all the parts needed for the replacement of the whole throttle linkage. The only part, I'll have to improvise is the accelerator linkage, since the '56 linkage I bought from Midfifty doesn't have the right shape. I already bent the upper part of that linkage, but I'll have to shorten that part after getting the correct measures (after mounting the throttle linkage). Here are some pics. I'll keep you up to date how it goes...
