1989 Ford F-150 Vs 1997 F-250 HD
Hello.
I've been offered a Base model 1997 Ford F-250 Heavy Duty 5.8L Reg cab with 129k miles in trade for my 1989 Ford F-150 Extended cab 4.9l.
I was wondering how much of a difference in value they have, from what I understand he is interested in mine due to the extended cab.
I originally was looking for an OBS when I bought my truck, so I am very interested in giving this a chance.
Is this a fairly even trade?
Both trucks are in fair shape, I won't be going to see it until saturday but he claims it has many new parts, and the body is really clean aside from some rust on rear wheel wells.
I will include pictures later.

I was definitely looking forward to getting more power from the bigger engine and beefier frame. Also, i've been riding on original shocks and leaf springs so i'm not too concerned about how smooth riding itll be lol, and how would i go about finding what my gearing is on my truck?
thanks

When new the 97 was a superior truck. Today, if the 97 is in similar or better condition then the 89 I would think the 97 would have more value.
If you have the 89 in pretty good shape and the 97 is suspicious I wouldn't trade a good truck for an unknown, unless it is just a project and not your main vehicle.
The only caveat IMO is that the heavy duty gassers can be hard to sell (if that matters to you) for a decent price. People see them and assume gas guzzler and move on or lowball you. People will jump on a power stroke on its last leg while perfectly good gassers rot. Not that you can't sell them, just that you feel robbed when you do. At least it seems that way in my area.
