272 Engine work

Just checking to see if my 58 F100 (Now has 223 engine) will a 272 engine go in with the same wiring harness, and will need anything elese to make it a V8? Will the standard rear still work fine with the 272 engine?

Wanted to see how much work it would be to change over from a 223 to a 272.

Thanks,

The only wiring changes will be to the generator. The 6cyl has the gen.and regulator on the drivers side and the y block has both on the passenger side. You will also need a y block bellhousing as the 6 is different than the v-8. Fuel line will need to be re-routed to the front of the drivers side from the passsenger side. I think the gas pedal linkage that goes thru the fire wall is different between the two engines. You will need the front mount off of a v-8. The rear end will be fine.

Have fun!

One more item, The radiator is different. The lower hose on the 6 is on the passenger side and the v-8 is on the drivers side. A good radiator shop can make the needed changes to the radiator.

I would be a simple switch. If you had all the parts talked about in the other posts. The rear in my truck was from a 6 cyl truck works just fine behind my 272. If you used a elderbrock 4 bbl carb stock 6cyl gas pedel linkage will hook up. Y blocks are great engines.
