Angry jerking engine

I am having a problem with my 1981 F-150 300 I-6. When at idle, it workes fine, but at high RPM's in gear it jerks. Depending on the day, it will either just shake every few seconds or it will be a constant jerk. It doesn't do it at high revs in neutral. It is a manual tranny. I heard about an making an EGR valve restrictor plate. Can anyone help me? Thanks

jerking engine

unplug the connector going to the EGR, and cavuum line and plug it.

The EGR is located on the back of the engine, next to the firewall. It has a rust colored tube coming up from the downpipe, shouldn't be difficult to find at all.

If its done jerking, there's your problem! You will get a check engine light and an error code.

You can make a restrictor plate pretty easily if you want to get rid of the light. I gotta get around to doing that...

My father's old F-250 with 351 did that too. We had no idea what it was and really didn't care as the truck was BEAT but still ran and took it like a champ. The local garage said it was "oil dripping into the synchros and gears for second gear".
