3.5 Eco Boost Catch

Just made the switch from a 5.0 F-150 to a 3.5 EB Expedition. I'm seeing threads about the "catch can/Oil Separator", why does the EB need this? I had 146,000 on my 5.0 without any issues.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks, Jim

Some say you do, some say you don't need it. Doubt you'll find an unbiased answer on any forum.
On the 1st gen 3.5, with the crankcase vapors being routed back to the intake side, valves would get coked up. Ford solved the problem with adding port injection, whereas the fuel washes the valves, preventing coking, on the GenII 3.5.
You can't hurt anything by having one, other than increased maintenance.
