99 cracked oil filter adapter?
#1
Cranked my truck this afternoon and immediately stopped after what sounded like a cat got caught up in the belt! After inspecting and not finding a cat I did find a chuck of oil covered cast iron on the ground, I took a look under the truck. What I think is the oil filter adapter (there is a sensor plugged into it) has a hole blown out right above the sensor. Its location is on left bottom side of engine if standing in front of truck. Anyone ever seen this? If it is the oil filter adapter is this something a novice can do on a Saturday? Please advise. Thanks!

Hole in engine
Took a look after it got dark using a flashlight and it wasn't on the left side but the right. There is a hole in the side of engine. My buddy thinks it may be from antifreeze or water on cylinder and broke a rod when I turned it over. Its toast. Has anyone replaced a Triton 6.8 V10 before? What kind of cost would I be looking at? The fun just never ends.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck.
I think mine was around $4K for a rebuild from Napa. I did have an issue with it self destructing after a couple hundred miles, so I wouldn't recommend the rebuild company that built the engine, although they did honor their warranty fairly well, and I now have 1500 miles on the replacement engine.
If you decide to go with a used engine, there are 2 valve (through 2003 or 2004) and 3 valve engines (2004 and newer?). I don't think you can install a 3 valve engine without making other changes, like possibly a wire harness and computer.
For any V10 specific questions you might want to post on the V10 forum. There is a ton of info in the forum.
