Outside temp sensor

Outside temp sensor
Need some advice. Have a 2013 F250 6.7. Notice my outside temp reading on my display was acting up. Reading 28 degrees when it was high 70s and turned my Max AC on but no cold air. Got to driving down the road and temp went up on display and AC started to blow cold. Does that sensor mess with the AC?

Yes, when it's too cold out it disables the compressor to prevent damage.
