2017 SD and Fifth Wheel towing

We hit the road with a 2013 GMC Sierra 2500HD D/A CC 6.5 bed. I loved the Duramax/Allison combo and it did a great job of pulling the fiver. It sat higher than the F350 does so I had a little less rail clearance until the MOR/ryde suspension system raised the trailer 2". However, with 3,000 lbs. payload capacity on the rear axle (per the CAT scales), it was just too close for comfort. We had a chance to trade even for the F350 with 28K miles on it. It was the right move for us.

We have a 2015 Fuzion 371 that we pulled for over 2 yrs using my son in laws F-250 SWB. Over on payload and before something bad happened I just bought a F-350 DRW...man what a difference to have some overkill for a change. 3050# pin weight and the truck doesn't even squat. Can gross up to 16K plus but we try to keep it loaded light as possible.

Tall Tales
My original plan was to trade in my F250 for an F350 PS. I was thinking I'd likely go 4x4 CC again (it's my daily driver, and I park in a garage at work), and probably a SRW SB. However, I've seen a lot of complaints from people on my trailer forum about all of the 2017 trucks (and not just Ford) all being around 5" taller even than last year. .
Forget about reaching over the bed of the truck to grab something from the back. What you will be doing is grabbing a small folding ladder or using the step in the tailgate. Big step there for short people.
But I LOVE my new truck. I expect problems getting my Arctic Fox 27-5 5th wheel level when it arrives next week but I will adapt and overcome.
I am told you can drop the bed height of the F-350 2" by replacing the rear axle spacer block with the 2" shorter F-250 spacer. We will see.
