1966 Mercury original truck? VIN decode
Hi, another beauty of a truck showed up here on Vancouver Island.
Ad description and pictures show a quite original M100, but...

I am skeptical about the VIN tag.
Is this a Mercury or just another Ford in disguise?

In 1966 both the Ford and Mercury trucks used the same Warranty Plate - that's not it in the pictures. If that is in the location of the Warranty Plate then I'd saw, judging by the fact that tag has been fooled with - that something would be amiss.
Look a little more on the Latch face of the left front door and see if you find the warranty plate. A drawing of what it should look like below.

1966 Mercury Pickup Outside Victoria, Victoria
I am skeptical about the VIN tag. Is this a Mercury or just another Ford in disguise?
Neither, it's from a 1953 Ford convertible!

This is not the correct Warranty Plate for any year truck! This is from a car, because BODY 76B is a convertible!
I cannot decode this plate (EDIT-see post # 7 for decode), but below "Made is USA" is the prefix BA which is a 1952 Ford car part number prefix.
Truck pictured in ad has a 1966 grille. 1966/68 Ford & Merc trucks assembled in Canada use the same 11 digit VIN, Warranty Plate and codes stamped thereon as US trucks.

Obviously the wrong plate for this or any truck.

My 1966 Mercury m100 has 2 wheel drive as the model not m or f100 on the bc title wondering if that is normal. My fords all have F100 F250, or f350 seemed odd to me. I'm sure it was just who ever wrote it way back when. Curious to hear what others titles say.

My registration from a truck 20 years ago that I still have the papers for says 1966 Mercury 2wh dr and also shows it as a Canadian import. This is because all vehicles born in Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦 come with Ontario registration as a business requirement. If the vehicle is sold new outside of Ontario that province or territory has to import it.

I maintain that '65-'68 Merc trucks didn't have the "M" prefix in the model descriptor as the pre-'65 trucks did (eg M100, M700), although RMM disagrees with me. My '66 Merc CS is described as "Mercury 250", my buddy's Canadian built '66 Ford CS is described as "Ford F250". Both trucks are registered in British Columbia on identical documents. However, if you look at the VIN on a '65-'66 Merc truck you will see that it starts F10, F25, etc.
