I recently received a 1976 highboy 4x4 with a 460 in it. It is also an automatic. The truck is in decent shape. I went in to get plugs wires and other tune up goodies. And they gave me the small plugs and the motor has big plugs in it. So I need to find out what motor and/or year it is . The valve covers have been painted so I can't find anything on them. The truck came with a 360 in it. I am going to get a new transmission and transfer case.Thanks for any help

 

The bolt pattern on the valve convers can tell you what engine you have. You could try the 73-79 forum, I think they may have a few more answers for you...

 

460 has 7 valve cover bolts and spark plugs like this. / / / /

FE (360,390) the intake is partialy under the valve cover and plugs like this. \ \ / /

 

i have a 69' 460 and it takes big plugs,the original 87' 460 i had took small ones.i think the big plugs were from 68' to 72' but if you find the casting number on tyhe head you can tell for sure.all you need is the first two digits.the first will be a letter c=60s d=70s,the second will be a number ,example: c9 =69,,,d0=70,,,d1=71.hope this helps.
