I do want more power than what's there right now. But, I'm sure just going through that 400 that's in there, back stock, with a little more cam, nice intake manifold and carb would be noticeably improved.

bob with a little creative parts swapping a 400 could get close to a 460's output.. you can use some 351c parts (heads, intake, pistons, cam) to build a engine with plenty of power

I started to ask if it was heads & intake but then I reread you post. Sheesh...

It's been a couple of decades since I messed with that series of engine.

I've looked around some, and haven't seen too many Cleveland's sitting around. I've seen that the heads, and other parts will fit the 351m/400. I'm open for ideas, I do need to get back to work on Ka'Bluey, and that 400 acts tired.

i will have to check i think i may have 1 or 2 351c engines in ltd cars at the yard .. but finding the 69 model 351c 4bbl heads and intake may be a bit of a hassle..
i think that even the early 351c 2bbl heads would give you more than the stock 8.1 compression.. maybe near 10.1
a well built 400 may be all you would ever need anyway

I'm probably better off staying with the 400, and not having to fool with changing things for a different block. I do prefer the 4bl heads and intake manifold.
See what you have in your stash and let me know. I'm sure we can come up with a pretty decent running 400.

I have a gas grill in the back yard too. It's nice to be able to turn on a few burners and be ready to put some kind of a dead animal on the grill.
If it's anything that I've put time into marinating, rub, injected etc, it's charcoal and or Hickory

Good morning everybody!
Not much going on around here today.
Just a couple more weeks and we can get a house pinned down. I found a rental management company that will hold a house 30 days. So that's probably the company we'll go with. Other's will only hold a property for 2 weeks (After approval), and I don't think we'll have any issues getting approved, other than that vicious German Shepherd. One outfit TripleSproperties has a no German Shepherd policy. Yup, dog discrimination but it is their property.
I'm wanting to get back into my wood working (Duh, bought another Shopsmith) but I'm wanting to make 'like the one I still have, that I made in Ozark out of a Cedar slab. But I want to use other woods too. I've found mills that are selling live slabs (Still has Bark) of Cedar, Oak, Hickory, Cherry, etc. I'm seeing these bring pretty decent money, and wouldn't mind making a little side money to help around the house, and some well needed shop therapy for me.

Y'all have a good day.
Be safe.

Lol dog discrimination is real! I had to pay more on a homeowners insurance policy before. They considered the Alaskan Malamute I had as a vicous breed.

good morning missouri.. dont look very inviting outside yet, but after taking off 2 days in a row i have to get something done today..

i would like to get the blue bronco back into the shop and start figuring brackets and pulleys to get the late model accessories bolted onto the early model 351w.. i almost wish i would of left the serpentine belt on it, but i wanted to use a manual fuel pump and get rid of the A.I.R. system. i am hoping the pulleys will easily change out from serpentine to V-belt on the power steering and A/C compressor.. but i wont know till i dig into it

There are a lot of new kits for the 400 series. I have a buddy at work that says that the 400 is not a bad series anymore.
