AC Issues

First warm day here in NC so I decided to turn on the the AC, but the air never cooled down. I did some poking around on the Web to see what could be the problem. Found a lot of reports of the evaporator core splitting in trucks like mine. Also learned that the repair requires removal of the dash entire dash! I've also seen many reports of this repair costing $1,400 at the dealership!!

So...
Does anyone know if there has been a recall/TSB on this issue?
Is this a job worth doing on my own? Or should I bit the bullet and pay Ford to do it?

2011 F250 CC 6.2

You should probably DIAGNOSE the problem instead of GUESSING or ASSUMING that you have the issue that you read about on the internet.

That way, you will KNOW what needs to be done.

Fist thing I'd do would be to troubleshoot using a dye kit with the uv glasses (wally world) At least then you'll know or sure what it is or isn't so you don't get taken for a ride.

That's fair. I didn't mean to suggest that I was going to do the repair without diagnosis. Perhaps better questions to ask first would be...
• Are there any known AC issues in these trucks?
• If not, where should I start diagnosing (I'm not all that familiar with AC systems, but am handy with a wrench)?
• If it is the evap core, is it a shade tree job? Or is it better to have the dealership do it?

I will agree it must be diagnosed first, but I have had an evaporator replaced on a 2011. Yes, the dash must be removed. Called three Ford dealers and got estimates ranging from $1200 to $2000.In my case the flow was insufficient. During the replacement service manager said a speck of dirt got into compressor so they replaced it as well. Total cost $1400.

Took my truck to the dealership today. The verdict: leaking evap core. Lucky GUESS I guess.

They quoted me $2,200 and 3 full days for the repair. Called around to other dealerships and the prices dropped to $1,500 and 1.5 days. Amazing how the same repair gets different time and cost estimates.
