How hard is it to change an oil pan gasket on a 300 I6 in a 95 F-150? Thanks in advance for any help.

Do a search in the "Inline Six" forum. I think you'll find it isn't easy. Most people seem to pull the engine up out a ways to do it, and they change the oil pump while they're at it. I do remember one guy posting that he did it without unbolting the engine mounts, but he said some of the bolts weren't easy to get to at all, and he threaded in the gasket only. This could end up being more trouble than it's worth if you decide the space is so tight that you can't clean the old gasket off of the block too well.

I have the same problem. It's going to be a pain to fix....If not expensive. I've been told you have to pull the engine up or out completely to fix the stupid thing. It's one of Fords "award winning" designs?? Yea right....

I just changed my pan gasket yesterday....88 F150 4.9 2wd 4spd. Warner. Besides unbolting the pan, I did have to raise the engine/trans in order to remove the pan from the vehicle. I do a lot of mechanic work so this was no big deal to me. If the underneath is oily and grimy, spend a little time degreasing and rinsing off before you start. You will need to raise the front of the truck ,block it securely with the park brake applied of course, remove the nuts from the engine mount studs as well as the trans mount studs. Remove the 2 upper fan shroud bolts , the air cleaner duct tube, as well as the single bolt that holds the power steer. return line/cooler to the crossmember. Then using 1 jack with a proper legnth 2x4 with a dip cut in it to fit the balancer, and a second jack to raise the transmission, lift the engine /trans up as far as you can, checking for binding of any wires or hoses (I had none, the previous items removed/loosened provided me all the room I needed until the engine/trans hit the floor pan). Now drain the oil, remove the million pan bolts, and slide the pan out. Clean the pan mounting surfaces and the pan, but dont try to clean anything else inside the engine. If the pickup screen seems carboned up, remove it for a bench cleaning, or just replace it. You could change your oil pump at this time also. 88 and newer pan gaskets are 1 piece design, and come with inserts to hold the gasket against the block in the four corners while you stab the pan back in place.I had to shorten the 2 front inserts because of clearance / angle problems while replacing the pan.It took about 4-5 hours to do.
