Electrical mess?!?!
Hello and please ANY help!!! I have a 98 F150 V8 Triton. I've seen posts regarding electrical malfunctions while driving,and have experienced the same thing. Guages will stop working as well as windows,break lights and interior lights will stay on, and this will sometimes be off and on,or can last a few days. It seems to happen right after it rains,and was a problem throughout the winter last year,but drove perfect all summer! My newest issue is I'll crank my truck to preheat in the mornings when its cold out,and while in park and idling sometimes my trucks starter will try and turn over while the darn thing is running. Sometimes its a few clicks over back and forth a few times and sometimes it sticks completely and i either have to shut the truck off or throw it into another gear for it to stop. I've put lots of money in this thing already and mechanics are stumped as to where to look. By the time I can get to a mechanic,its usually not doing any of this or the weather has dried up and its working fine! If anyone else has any leads or experienced this as well,I'd love a few ideas as to what to check first! Thanks so much!!!!

Find a new mechanic or auto electric shop.
Suspects in no particular order:
ignition switch, grounds everywhere, cables (they can corrode internally), general wiring in fuse block area.
You simply have to start at the battery terminal and work you way through to the starter and ignition, checking connection, cross-wire shorting, grounds, wire condition, switch condition, etc.
Find a new mechanic or auto electric shop.

There is a known issue with the windshield leaking and water dripping down into the GEM on back of the fuse box next to the driver's left leg. This causes all sorts of electrical issues until it dries out. The fix is for the windshield to come out and be reinstalled with new sealant.
