How does erratic idle speed help one discover yet another coolant leak?

Simple. When one misroutes the throttle position sensor connector too close to the exhaust pipe for the EGR, it tends to melt. When it gets wet from the coolant leak, it shorts out and sets the idle control valve to wide open. I found the bad connector which lead me to a pinhole leak in a coolant by-pass line.

I had a spare TPS connector which I wired up (and then rewired because someone forgot that signal return means ground) and replaced the hose. Hopefully that is the last of the leaks.

I think this job would have been much easier if I hadn't been pretending I didn't have a sinus infection coming on. Too many silly mistakes...

It certainly wore out my collection of colorful idioms used only for special occasions. If it pulls any more stunts, I may have to borrow some new ones from Alan.

good evening all... i went to the shop today, but jeff had to work so i played with my black bronco a little bit.. i got the old trans out, measured everything to see what all i will have to change to install the C6 trans.. there is a little more to change around than i first thought ( isn't that always true) but all in all it should not be a real hard job.. i did get the trans and transfer case back in the truck and a couple of bell housing bolts put in to keep it from falling out..... i forgot to get the right side exhaust manifold replaced before i replaced the trans so i better do that before i get too much more installed.. i hope to make a lot of progress tomorrow..

RC - Were you going to ditch the EFI in that Bronco? If not, I've heard that the computer throws a hissy fit if it doesn't see the inputs from the transmission.

dave the trans in it is the AOD with the cable. the only electronics on it are the speed sensor which i think will work ok in the C6.. the other wires are for the electronic transfer case on/off and high low.. i dont think they would even have any senders going to the computer.. i guess i will have to wait and see

Great news RC. The computer will never know the difference between the AOD and a C6. I've read many posts where someone pulled an E4OD and went to manual or C6 and had many, many issues with the computer.

yea i already checked that out.. i was originally thinking of rebuilding the AOD but the fuel mileage difference would not pay for the parts for many years.... plus the C 6 is way more heavy duty of a trans

So my new truck is black with a heavy duty auto trans. Can the transfer be changed to manual ? or should it be left alone .

Evening All!

Jeff, you left your tail light at the shop.

I got the headers and trans crossmember finished up today. The seat will get installed tomorrow and hopefully get a jump on the sheet metal work. I need this thing gone so I can get on the next project.

Afternoon All!

I got the seat mount done in the S-10. I just have to drill the mounting holes and bolt it in. Then I'm gonna spend the rest of the day putting what I can of the interior back in so all that's left tomorrow is the tin work in the bed.
