For what I do, I dont need a SD. My 2013 does a good job for what I do. have I gone over the GVWR? not yet. but Im not scared to do that. Just drive carefully and dont run over your brakes. but some people should not go over the GVWR, some people drive better than others

I've been towing a car hauler for twenty years first using a 2004 F150 5.4L and later using a 2007 Navigator 5.4L. So I am used to towing and being careful, giving myself extra braking space etc. I am going to test drive a 250 but am pretty sure I will probably go with the 150. I just won't be towing that much during the year and think I'll be happier with the 150 for my regular driving.

Now my decision is whether I go with a used 2013-15 or step up to a new 2016. Will be looking for a Supercrew Lariat with the 3.5 EB and 6 1/2 foot bed. Would prefer max tow if I can find it.

I'm going out on a limb here and predicting that that combo will be very, very rare.

Which combo? I've already found around five new 2016's with those specs within 100 miles. What part did you think would be hard to find, the max tow?

I want the 6 1/2 bed because of the longer wheelbase.

Longer wheelbase is definitely worthwhile. Those can be hard to find by themselves, as are trucks with the max tow option. Typically not an easy combo to find, but perhaps they're more common in your area.

I think finding the used ones will be far more difficult. The buyers of those usually wanted that specific truck and tend to keep them. There were far fewer of them in the first place. Just like you're finding looking at new ones. There are 5 or 6 in your area compared to hundreds that are equipped otherwise.

Just the crew+6-1/2' bed was impossible for us to find when we were shopping. Zero in the whole state of California. Dealers all said that combo was almost never stocked; you have to order it.

That's interesting. Just did another search today. Comes up with around 5-10 within 100 miles of me. Maybe the 6 1/2 beds and max tow are more common here in farm country. And that's for the Lariat. If I expand to the XLT I get around 5-10.

Good luck on your search, dooger54. I wouldn't rule out finding a new leftover 2015 truck with good rebates either.
