Yeah, what are you going to do with that big ol' truck? I'd come down and check it out, but I'm leaving the state Saturday for a while.
Hey, keep it Meadow Green, I haven't seen any that color. Does it have the white-painted grill? That green would look sweet w/the white grill and bumpers. Is the F500 strong enough to carry a car around if you put a tilt bed and winch on? Maybe someone else can answer that.....
Get your magazines and parts catalogs, so you can start droolin' before it gets there. Nevermind the real expensive stuff. Once you get good at knowing who's got what, it won't be so scary as far as cost goes. Old cars/truck aren't cheap, but you don't always have to pay top dollar for parts, either.
You've come to the right place!

I'm going to have pictures for you soon, I've arranged to have it brought down next week. The Gross weight on it is 16k, so I think I could do pretty much anything with it... For right now, I'm going to use it in a home restoration project... I'm renovating my grandmother's old house. I need something to haul large amounts of lumber, gravel, and trash. It's got a 10' bed on it, but it's just static... let me tell you about the OTHER one...
You're all going to laugh at this, but I just got another one!!! This one is in a heck of a lot better shape. It's a 61 F500, Dark red color. The body is in a lot better shape than the 59. Now the question is... what the heck am I going to do with two of these monsters!??!? The woman who sold me the first one decided to sell the second one too. Seems she was married to a logger. Both of the trucks were used to haul logs back and forth to her saw mill. He divorced her, and she got the whole shebang. She also has a 4wd s10 and an absolutely GIGANTIC International Harvester flatbed. The IH is going for $1500, but it's worth it.
The 61 is a V8. I was pretty doubtful about it starting up, but it starts faster than my suburban does. The only problem with it is the master cylinder for the brakes is completely gone. I need to get a new one for it before I can get it down from where it's at. The body has had some work done, but a lot more care was taken with it than the 59. I'm going to be it's 3rd owner. In case you can't tell, I've been jumping up and down over this all day long
I guess the second one is beyond the scope of this board though.. I'll need to move up to the 61 board to talk about that one
On the 59, I don't think it would be a problem at all to haul cars about, once I get a proper bed installed. The 61 will be operational a lot faster, so I think I'll take my time restoring the 59. I'd like to make that more of a show truck, and use the 61 for my hauling and towing.

Hey Roger, a couple of those shots look like they're from Playboy or something, with the gauzy, out-of-focus effect. And that isn't anywhere near baby-poop yellow. I've been changing my grandson's diapers for a while now and I ain't seen nothing like that come out yet.
On the serious side, it looks like a real keeper. I don't see hardly any rust on it and not much by way of dents either! You can make that into a really great truck with some work and a little money. Keep us posted on your progress!

Hey Roger!
Guess what? I found a real sweetie of a commercial truck out here in Kansas. It's a '59 F600, in Adriatic Green! It's just beautiful. It looks to have been a grain truck for most of its life (go figure), and the grain thingy on the back is still useable. There are 3 levers in the cab coming thru the floor, prob. to operate the tilt bed. I've never been around that stuff. Anyway, maybe I can get some shots and post them to my gallery.
I'd like to find one like this one day and make it into a vintage car hauler.......we'll see.....
Your truck looks good! But it's not baby poop. That color isn't far off from my original color - Goldenrod Yellow.

Ha ha ha!! I knew somebody would appreciate that!
Those 3 levers on the floor don't count the column shift. It looks to have a tilting "Grain Box" and I figured one lever would control that.
If I can get a job at Wal*Mart maybe I can afford at LEASE dial up and I'll post some pics of it.

There is two controls for a truck hoist. The PTO is bolted to the transmission and interfaces with the cluster gear. When the lever is pull it ingages the gear which then spins a shaft that runs a hydralic pump. Normally there is a lever on the drivers side of the box that you pull/push to raise and lower the hoist. Most hoists are run by a single hydralic ram. There was also no 3sp trannys setup to handle a PTO driven hoist. There were electric hydralic hoists though. I have one of those even though the truck had a 4spd.

Hello to All;
Am new to the forum, but I see I came to the right place 'cause I love old trucks, especially Fords! I have a '56 C600 in original condition except for the 12' flatbed, looks like it needs another 4' or so. Not sure on the V8 in it, think it's a 272 or 292, 1bbl Holley, 4/2 w/ electric splitter on rear axle. Cab's in great shape, faded red, runs but no brakes. Shorted the battery against the frame hauling hay two summers ago, now the ammeter is wacked out, reading reverse of how it should. What's the best way to troubleshoot the electrical? I have a manual, just need 24 more hours added to every day, no time for a job, don't you know?
