Header options

Need some help. I've got a 1994 Bronco with (I believe) the original 5.8 liter V8. My first question is will putting on headers cause any issues with the original system/setup (computer, fuel injection, etc.) that I will need to be prepared for dealing with? Second, is it "worth it", meaning what benefits will the provide? Last, I think I can get a good deal on Flowtech Long Tube headers. Is this a "do it yourself in the driveway" type of job or am I better off paying a professional to do it?

Thanks for the help!

It won't cause any issues with the computer, but since you are talking long tubes, this will affect the original oxygen sensor location. Shorty headers obviously aren't an issue.

Headers are usually one of many basic things people can do to these engines to get a little extra power, without doing major engine work, so in that sense it's worth it. Search for some technical write-ups or videos to see if it looks like something you do or don't want to mess with. It is basically a "do it in your driveway" but that still doesn't mean it won't be a hassle.

the whole stock exhaust is a bottle neck frankly. Long tube headers can be used like mentioned the o2 sensor bung will need welded into the collector on one of the sides. you will also run into potential frame clearance issues or front drives shaft clearance issues.

shorties are a more direct swap but still a pain. dont go cheap here, a quality header will have a thick header flange to keep them from warping when heated up. this will ensure a proper seal. running quality gaskets like Percy's is a good call. also quality header bolts. I like running a 1" long header bolt for that extra thread into the head.

the Y pipe should be redone regardless and a hi flow cat put in place. a quality muffler shop should be able to do the exhaust work for a resonable price and all be mandrel bent. Dont bother going to a dual exhaust, you wont gain anything but a thinner wallet due to the cost of building the kit.

Looks good, prevents rusting on the inside and out of header.
