timing

Angry timing

I have a 1995 ford ranger 3.0 the timing belt broke and harmonic balancer we put a new belt and balancer in and thought we had it on the right marks. it runs but spits and sputters. it has 150lbs of compression in all cylinders. we called ford dealership for the timing marks to be sure but they said they cant give out that info? does anyone know the correct mark for the timing.

timing

Are you sure you have the right engine. The 3.0 has a timing chain not a belt. The old 2.3 and 2.5 has a belt.

timing

now it has rough idle and wont take throttle past half way! any help would be great.

Interesting. Make sure all of the wiring is connected correctly. If it is then it sounds like you are off by a tooth. I'm going to replace my belt in a few months, but I don't think you want to wait that long. Do you know how to degree a cam?

we just put it in the same timing mark. could it be a sensor? do you need to degree the cam?

You shoudn't have to degree the cam, but it will tell you if the timing is correct or not. Double check all of your connections, and if they are all correct then you are most likely are off by a tooth. Some cam gears have multiple timing marks. I've worked on several 350's that have three different symbals to adjust timing.
