Dash fire

I just had a dash fire in my 85 F-150. The insurance wants to total it. I think I can fix it. Is it a big deal to replace the dash?

Depends on how much got damaged. Was the fire outside in the blower housing, or inside? How much are they offering you?

The fire seems to have started in the ac controls. The fire melted the center of the dash. Insurance wants to give me $2700.00. I'm the original owner and the truck has 117000 miles on it. It's a nice truck and I'd like to keep it. I have after market ac, installed about 1987. If I have to replace the dash I'd like to go with a factory ac dash. Anybody have any experience with this topic? The blower does not appear to be damaged but the fire melted my stereo including the ashtray and the top of the dash.

Sounds like you're getting a reasonable settlement - are they letting you keep the truck at the $2700 amount, or do they want it? If they want the truck, how much are they figuring for the salvage title?

You shouldn't have any trouble finding a decent used dash and all the factory A/C parts. Look thru my signature link and see what all I've done to my truck.

They want the truck. They are going to get back to me about the salvage title so I really don't know yet, I figure about half that amount.
