I am confused. "Leftover" sounds like from a previous year, not next year.
I have found random snippets online saying that late '76 had the 400 but nothing really concrete. Most places say that it was available in '77.
There is a '76 that is for sale here claiming to have a 400 in it. I haven't talked to the guy yet because I don't have cash in hand yet. But, 1976 is a smog year, and the 400 is a ******* child, so I am sure that I can get it cheaper if it sits longer. I am just getting my info together so I know what I am looking at when I go to see it.
He has a few other Fords, so maybe it had a 460 in it that he swapped out and put the 460 into something that he is keeping? I guess I will find out eventually.
Ok, another question then. The pic shows a dual shock coil spring front end. Dual shocks were factory? Or should I be looking for hack work when I climb under it?
Again, I don't want to ask him much until I have cash.

I bought an '07 F150 that was a left of in Feb 2008. I am pretty sure "left over" means that the dealer couldn't sell it in the year it came to the lot. I am almost positive that the 351M/400 didn't come in the F150 until 1977.5. Before that, it was a 360 (not a 390), 302, or a 300. The 460 was a dealer option, not from the factory. I feel like this has been discussed once or twice before. Hopefully, NumbersDummy will chime in and set the record straight.

Hopefully I can get the cash together and go take a look. It is a California smog year truck with a 400, so it will sit for sale for awhile.
I am thinking about seeing what I can get for my ranger so I can buy the other truck. It is hard to go all in considering no a/c and horrible mpg, but you know how it is.

The 1978 F-100 Explorer my Dad owned when I was born. 351M/C6/2WD.
He said it was great in the winter. People'd take one look at it in the rear-view and think "Oh, he doesn't give a s**t about that thing, he's not gonna stop it!"
He sold it to a buddy. I don't know where it ended up. Junkyard, probably.
I am utterly convinced I need a Dentside for myself. I just wish I could afford another truck. The "joys" of being 18.

When I was 16 years old my dad had a '78 2wd and my brother had a '79 4wd. I sold my '79 4x4 a couple years ago and hunting to get back into one right now, because...
I am utterly convinced I need a Dentside for myself. I just wish I could afford another truck. The "joys" of being 44.
