Engine replacement options

I have a 2005 F150 5.4L V8 Triton Supercab 4x4. I've heard of a lot of bad things happening to the Triton engine due to the cam phasers as well as a few other problems. I was wondering If Ford or if anyone knows of any compatible with my truck that's not a Triton replacement. I do a lot of highway driving through a lot of steep hills as well as some light offroad. Is there anything similar to the newer V6 twin turbo setup that would work in my truck or anything such as a V6 that will work with a supercharger or procharger kit to receive the extra HP and torque for these steep hills while still maintaining decent mpg compared to the 14 I get now?

No, you would have to replace 'in-kind' or spend about $50,000 having some other engine adapted to your vehicle. Even that may not be enough, because it's basically impossible on a modern street vehicle considering all the computers and sensors. If your engine is running fine now I wouldn't worry about it.

You maybe able to goto a 2006 -2008 5.4L, but that would be about it.

Thanks guys. Trucks paid off and love my truck. Not to mention I don't want monthly payments of $500-600. You know or hear of any places that make rebuilt 5.4's that solve all the problems and run like they're supposed to?

It's basically always better to just trade the truck on something with the engine you want.

sounds like we are infiltrated with chevy lovers......

Remanufactured Ford Triton engines | Gas Engines | JASPER Engines

Not a big fan of Jasper engines, but read what they do to Upgrade the 5.4.
Also check out the video on the oil pump.

Retro fitting wouldn't cost 50 K but would be costy to do it in a mechanically sound way. BUT it wont pass most if not all emission tests.
They require that emissions equiptment has to be OE to the model years as designed or newer. That would be a hurdle.
Watch the videos.
Pay attention to what they say about spray welding the cam journals. That is where the problems begin

It would make sense to me that Ford redesigned the cam phasers or another engine component on the later 5.4L models to reduce the failure rate that was experienced in the earlier models. So, a reman engine should incorporate the upgrades?

I'd say that $5200 for a Ford reman with the warranty that's being offered is a wise choice if the intention is to keep the truck.

Based on my own lack of experience as a younger man, I would spend the extra and have the the belt(s), hoses, alternator, starter and any other failure prone external system replaced as well as the motor mounts, water pump, etc.

I did an engine swap on the cheap and paid dearly in time and money fixing my old '88 f-150.

5192 is the list price for the motor, installation costs extra...or do it yourself.
