DANG IT. 2X Alex. Seems like someone was on here wanting to sell a F100 Dana 60 recently. Your "workin' son of a gun" could prolly use one. You might check the Marketplace Garrett. I have to work the next two Saturdays. Otherwise I'd say......ROADTRIP!

Actually I was tempted for a fleeting moment Mike. What you said was Humorous. But the situation sure isn't.

The 9" is plenty up to the task IMO. Its just that for whatever godforsaken reason, the damn ring gear bolts are backing out.

But, only when it's a Yukon carrier, with grade 8 bolts. Back when i built the unit I had with the locker, the Ford carrier and Ford bolts held together just fine, and when I took it out and sold it over a year later, they were still fine!

So that tells me that it's either the Yukon carrier, using grade 8 bolts, or the combination of putting them together. Because I know plenty of people run Yukon, and plenty of people run grade 8 bolts....

So, I don't know. I'm pretty sure I'm just gonna cough up the money for that Currie unit. They make quality stuff, and even though it's expensive, it will be something I'll be proud to have. Nodular case, big 3.06" bearings, Daytona pinion support. You know, all the good stuff haha.

I suppose I am rough on it. Not all the time of course, but there are those tire-chirping upshifts and downshifts.

Your decision of course Garrett. But Lizard not only has the stronger rear end, but he's also here in Phoenix and wouldn't want anything close to $1700. Just sayin'.

BTW guys, since my 60th birthday is this Monday, my family is getting together at The American Legion at Cave Creek rd and Beardsley this Saturday at 4:00 to celebrate it. You two are invited. No presents. Just good food, spirits, and have fun. Bunch of great people at that Post. Give me a call if you show up and are in the parking lot. I'll guest you in.

Oh, I know Mike. And I think Garrett didn't take offense to it. It is extremely obvious you are a Good Guy from your posts in the past. I was just explaining why I wasn't going to add that to the Kingdom. You know me. I'm all in when it comes to humor, the family we call The Bumpside Kingdom, and adding a title to that thread. I just couldn't think of a good way to add it with humor.

I got it lol. I'm not one to get offended by anything haha. And honestly, I can't remember a time that I've actually been mad. Frustrated all the time! But Very rarely mad.

I'm still waiting on it to show up. Was expecting it Friday but that didn't happen. So yet another weekend goes by without cruising or having fun with the ol truck. I miss driving it.

Since the ring gear bolt debacle has happened to you several times now, you may consider lock-wiring the ring gear bolt heads, as added insurance, against it happening again.

If you cannot get pre-drilled lock bolts for this, you can drill the ones that comes with the gears/3rd member yourself.

Discussion on a 4x4 forum about ring gear bolts backing out.

Safety wire for ring gear bolts?

How to properly apply lock wire to the bolt heads.

If I had had this problem personally (multiple times) and if I was going to lock-wire the ring gear bolt heads, I would lock-wire them in two-bolt pairs. (5 wires total with each of the individual 5 wires tying two bolts together).

If you only had one continuous wire looping through all (10) ring gear bolts, and one bolt backed out enough to break the lock wire, the remaining (9) bolts would be more at risk of backing off too. It would be much less likely with (5) individual wires, in two-bolt pairs, that they would all come apart, simultaneously.
