Brake controller mounting

Hey group,

I'm buying a large trailer this week and need to find a way to mount the brake controller. It is a Tekonsha (sp) inertial unit so there are only wiring connections, I've got the wiring whipped but in my '97 F150 there are NO flat spots under the dash. I thought about mounting it in the little change pocket down to the right of the steering column but the pocket slants down at a sharp angle. Any suggestions?

I put mine over behind the hood/ brake cables under the dash. Works great for me.

Its a pain to find a good location on the F150. You will just have to trial and error it before shooting the screws. Its a personal preference in relation to where it can interfere with your entry and exit from the vehicle, interference of removal of panels in the event of future repairs, and marring the surfaces where you mounting it and getting the desired mounting angle. I dont like installing them on the F150 and am tickled green when the customer does it himself. I often make the salesman bring the customer to me to show me where he wants it mounted so I wont hear any belly aching later on :P

LOL Homer! I decided I'm going to put it in the pocket lower right of the column. I'll need to remove the facia to get at the pocket and make a horizontal slot so the controller will sit near level. I can not stand accessories that look scabbed on and as this thing will stay with the truck from now on I want it to look right. Hopefully there is room behind the facia to hang it up in there. Truck is turning 6 this year, about time I cut into it I think.

Does the controller have a level adjustment **** on it? Usually they can be mounted at quite an angle and then you just turn the level adjuster **** and it works ok like that.
Homer you pointed out a pet peeve of mine. I HATE when people put holes in any part of the dash that cant easily be replaced or you cant get the panels off afterwards.

Hi Dave,

No level adjustment. The directions (Yes, I know... What are those?) say the unit should be "near level" front to back and parallel to the direction of travel. The good news is that I'm almost done with the mounting. I slotted the top of the pocket and it will look really nice sitting in there... no sloppy wiring, no holes in dash, and no knee banger!

Mine is far enough under the dash that I don't hit it with my long legs and it doesn't interfere with anything. Mine is electronic so it doesn't have to be perfectly level, but it is pretty close.
