My brother has four 15 x 5 1/2" split rims that he no longer needs, so they are available pretty cheaply. Since they are a Ford pattern we think they may be a Ford wheel, but don't see a Ford oval showing. Anyone recognize them? Anyone need them? Any idea what year(s) truck they might be from?
Dad had similar rims on '49-52 1/2 tons and I remember a neighbor having them on '55 1/2 ton. They were preferred for roadside repairs with heavy sidewalled tires.
Thanks. Maybe I should let those folks know. I should have said that the intent here is to find someone that can use these rims, probably only in a restoration, as split rims aren't very desirable.
I don't know if they came factory on those year Fords or not, just that Dad and others liked them because it was easy to get the tires off and on for repair. I remember Dad looking for a set to put on a '53 or '54 that had come with "car" rims. Was not uncommon, back when, to repair several flats beside the road in a single day; unpaved roads and poor rubber.
