There must have been some "service charges" associated with each payment, is my guess. Then again, I remember CIT Financial, it was a step above a loan shark even in the '60's.

There's a handbook called the Branham Automobile Reference Book that came out each year for use by the police, DMVs, etc, to show VINs, engines, and list price on all production vehicles. My 1956 copy covers back to 1950. While there may have been optional equipment that wasn't stated, it's pretty clear the dealers in both these transactions weren't giving discounts. A 1950 9HC pickup had a list price of $1175. Abe's truck had a list price of $1363. My 1952 F-3 Express OHV 6 cylinder had a list price of $1587. The Marmon-Herrington converted chassis (R32-4) is listed separately and cost an additional $1450. The truck cost as much as a Lincoln! Stu
