Just for a few stories to make you less shy of high-mileage (at the right price) My '09 F150 5.4 SCrew is pushing 160K and running great. My father's '10 F150 5.4 SCrew was running great at 220K when he traded it in. Its predecessor, an '07 same specs, was over 200K as well.

I always try to find the lowest mile truck i can afford that meets my specs. That said these trucks don't seem to mind the miles.

I bought a 2010 XLT 4WD 5.4L with 180000 miles on it. At the time, it was priced about the same as as 2005 models with 150K miles. Living in Ohio, my thinking was 5 less winters vs 30K miles. Overall, I have been happy with it. There have been some quirks with it, but you will get that with any used vehicle. I got a very good deal on it, it was a little beat up and the dealer wanted to get rid of it.

Let me second the Ohio thought process. A newer just that has been abused by less salt and winter road grime with a few extra miles is worth it compared to miles. They build these to be tortured and run for a long time, but the reality is once you near/cross 100k miles things start to show wear. It's the same with any vehicle. So consider also weighing what might need service in the near future. Assuming it was well maintained, you're probably just looking at normal check ups and fluid changes. But if there's body issues such as rust, that's a problem. Be tedious with the inspection. A dealer/lot will spit shine a high mileage truck and try to hide any body issues so they can price it higher and hope to make some serious cash on it.

And, I'd be less concerned about a newer vehicle with a large number of highway miles as well. Take that into consideration when asking questions about "why so many miles."

Good luck!

Well I found and purchased a truck

I ended up with a 2009 XLT in Pueblo Gold color. It has 120K for mikes and was a one owner sales truck for a local company. It was cleaner than most that I looked at in the same price and age range and it has a complete service record and was always maintained from the dealership where I bought it. There are a few small chips and small scratches normal for the age but nothing that isn't fixable and mainly there is no rust. It has a few more miles than I wanted but with the service record and the extras included in the XLT package I am happy and my neighbors thought it was a new truck.

I have already added Weathertec floor liners, a bug shield to the hood, rear fender liners and I have a list of accessories on the want list.

Yeah, now I am spending all my time on these forums looking up questions and how to's

This truck has almost new Hankook 235/70/17's on it. I would like a bigger tire but I suppose that would kill the mileage and noone would want them so I might as well drive it until they wear out. I have the 4.6L engine. The 6 speed takes some getting used too as it seems to always be in too high of gear or the braking feeling when downshifting. Nothing odd that I cannot live with though

The 4.6 should run nice in that truck. It took me a while to get used to the 6 speed as well. It's a nice transmission, especially if you plan on towing anything. There's all kinds of fun stuff to buy.

Congrats on the truck!!! If you want new tiers then bite the bullet. My 2011 came with the exact tire you have and they have 45K on them with 6/32's remaining. The tires ride nice and they last a long time but their traction is horrible and they look puny on a huge truck. I'll be upgrading to a 265-70-17 in a couple months.

Good luck with your truck and post away!

5.4
5.0
4.6
3.7
3.5

Though there doesnt seem to be a lot of difference in the mpg between a few of these. I mainly want to haul some wood, camping gear, antique furniture, and deer. I am lucky in that this will not be my primary or full time vehicle.
From a mileage standpoint I would line them up a little more like this.

(Worst)
5.4L
4.6L
5.0L
3.5L
3.7L
(Best)

The 5.0L and 3.5L (Ecoboost) are so close on mileage it's really negligible to try and compare them in that aspect. The 3.7L N/A V6 is the highest rated engine as far as mileage goes. Neither the 5.4L or 4.6L were ever known for having great fuel mileage, however they have been proven to last well over 300,000 miles when maintained well.

From a Power to the ground standpoint it's more like.

(Worst)
4.6L
3.7L
5.4L
5.0L
3.5L
(Best)
