Why do some of you recommend a complete brake fluid flush? I flushed system a year or so ago, is it because the fluid is old?

I imagine they also want to flush any air out of the lines

From what I have come to understand it is because hydraulic fluid accumulates moisture over time and water of course is less dense than hydraulic fluid so it causes a squishy pedal. Removing it and replacing it with new fluid cures that.

No, if there is ANY air in the lines you will know. Flushing the fluid and bleeding the brakes are two totally different things.

Close,

Dot 3 & 4 brake fluids are glycol based and as such absorb water out of the air.
Over time the corrosion inhibitors in the fluid wear out, now you have water in the system and no corrosion inhibitors = bad
if water was to get In The system by the caliper it would boil and create steam, steam is compressible whereas water or brake fluid is not. Obvious with compressible steam in the system no braking is going to take place = bad

Fwiw, neither water or oil ( brake fluid ) is compressible

Not technically true... water pressure is due to pressure of the water above it pressing down on it. Water is considered for the most part non compressible but there is a 1% margin that it can be compressed

I would love to do this upgrade on my F250 CC. Anyone know if the Russell kit meant for 4" lift kit would work on my truck?

Well my lines came in from Crown and I have some really great feelings and some real anger towards them.

On the plus side the lines look AMAZING! I went with red so they would stand out and I could look at them and say "Check out my red brake lines.". The quality looks wonderful.

Now for the bad... Shipping was like $14 which I was fine with until I received the box. It was a long slender box and I could hear the the lines sliding around. I opened it up and the lines slid out and with it came a Crown nudi-magazine girl poster with a calendar on the bottom. The lines would have fit it a Flat Rate box for $5 had they left out the poster I promptly threw in the garbage where it belongs. Had they asked if I wanted that or nothing I would have said nothing. I was a little upset with the amount they charged for shipping when I bought them but I assumed there was a valid reason but them throwing in some mechanic toolbox trash isn't one. Highly disappointed with this, I should not be charged an extra $8 for them shipping my advertisement I don't want.

Edit** Just found them on Summit for $165 Russell Street Legal Brake Line Kits 696490 - Free Shipping on Orders Over $99 at Summit Racing . Flip side is they have free shipping right now, plus anything else you order with them ships for free... Now to find out what else I need that's heavy, like some aluminum heads for the 454... hmmmmm.

Great post. Thanks for posting the link to Summit! I'll be ordering these. About to do my brakes very soon!

Will these lines fit a non-lifted 2005 Excursion?
