Some of the things we do to these trucks are to fix flaws they had from the factory to make them better than stock. Replacing the flat down pipe with a 3" round is definitely at the top of that list. In my opinion e-fuel would be second. The down pipe and intake will improve fuel mileage and it will run better, especially if you delete the cat also. Probably the best bang for your buck would be the intake, 3" down pipe, cat delete and 4" straight piped exhaust, or if you don't want it to be quite that loud, do a 4" exhaust system with a nice flow thru muffler. If you decide to do any of this check out Riffraff. Clay has what you need and will treat you right.

on that older truck though - is that integrated toolbox in the bed stock? i've never seen that before but always thought that would be an awesome mod for our trucks. i hate the wasted space under the bed rails.

Y'know, they do come in other colors...
That CCSB isn't just stock, it's darn near showroom. Rare that a red truck would still look so good. In the south, where they don't rust, red paint takes a real beating in the intense sun. In the north, where the sun isn't so intense, it's the rust that inflicts the beating.
And yes, the tool box built into the bed was an awesome option up into the '70s. A crime against humanity that they discontinued it.

I started modding mine after 170k. Mine is a red F250 just like yours and in good condition but not as good as yours. It started bone stock as well.I started with the intake and exhaust just like everyone else, i was screwed after that. I do agree that the next best mod is electric fuel, night and day in how it runs and performs. For me the IDM was another one that I modified helping it to run noticeably nicer.

I second what all these guys said. 170,000 is barely broke in for these trucks. What Bill said about making it better than stock is spot on. Don't listen to Todd until he reports that he has gotten a vise and is up and running. Welcome to FTE!! Great group on here with some good humor...right Bill? LOL

Welcome to FTE! Sweet looking ride! Yeah miles don't really mean a whole lot (look at my sig...lol and theres people on here with more)
But yeah I agree with everyone else, down pipe and exhaust are major things and will help the truck to run better.
Stick around here and you will learn much. Great, great group here!

two great looking trucks! i love those old trucks, but that new one looks near mint. if that were me, the other side of the truck would be all banged up though ! :-)
