Do you have air bags? Also my neighbor put some real stiff tires on his duramax, I believe load range F or G, for his huge pickup camper that sways real bad. just a thought.

Reconditioned stock forged rods are the most economical. Crower and Carrillo are quite expensive, around 3K a set
it was a 99 motor so they are forged ones in it, right now im at the edge of stock forged and just going with a nice set. Swamps has manleys for 2300 and everyones got crowers and carillos for 2600. I have some money for them now since its taking so long to get this thing together lol Just didnt know if anyone had opinions on them or not. Searches havent come up with much so maybe ill post in the 7.3 board

Not to take away from FTE, but there aren't a lot of high HP builds that I have seen. Maybe check PSN. I really haven't done much looking for 7.3 performance stuff...

PSA would be a good place to look.

If you ask in the 7.3 section here all you are going to hear about is compression tests and certain members pontificating...

I looked for that hammer but didn't see anything. I'm pretty sure that you had put it back on your cart.

Yeah i was swiftly directed to PSA and now im overwhelmed with info lol

my ESOF problem has just been a nightmare, its all in getting the case to shift or even see that theres a shift motor down there. ford fixed some wiring behind the dash for me but for the price of that and a new case motor or 2 im where i wouldve been with a remanned manual case.... /sigh

back to reading about rod weights and stuff lol on a good note very similar builds are showing 6-650hp cant imagine that in a truck that weighs only 4k

I've built a number (multiple dozens) of engines for my racecars and others as well as some stock diesels ... I've got huge respect for both Carillo and Crower for their rods. Crower has also made some nice cranks. Pistons, I've used Manleys ultra lightweight pistons but I mostly use Ross.
I'm curious what sort of prep you do on the crankshafts. I've heard that a number of diesels use ductile iron, but also heard that the 7.3 (and its predecessors) used forged steel. I've gotten a lot of great service life out of steel cranks that have been turned, chamfered and nitrided. Do you do the same with the Diesel cranks? What about wrist pins.. I would think that you'd probably want full inside diameter rather than tapered - true?
I would imagine that head work / ports would be quite similar to gas engines..

Where do you dyno the diesels?

Regards - Randy

P.S. I cut my diesel teeth in the Navy working on the old 2 stroke 6-71's back in 1971.. Of course they weren't quite as ancient as they are now..
