I've haven't seen one leak myself, but anything with an o-ring has the potential to leak. Is the leak in the general vicinity of the IPR? There's a plug on the underside of the HPOP that's known to be a potential leaker, too.

I was thinking it was the HPOP, but I was keeping an eye on the two hoses on the side of it. There was so much grime everywhere its been hard to see. I have pressure washed most of it off, but will probably take another round or two of cleaning before I can tell for sure where its coming from. But it doesn't appear to be coming from those hoses on the side, so I guess ill have to check out the plug under it. Could that leaking cause the stalls?

Sorry for my ignorance, I'm new to the diesels and the PO didn't seem to care enough to do anything bit routine maintenance.

Well, it's hard to say if the leak could cause stalling. Especially without knowing for sure where the leak actually is. How bad is it?

It makes about a 6" puddle when it sits. I'm gonna go check around the IPR now and see if I can spot the leak.

After popping the hood I discovered the plug for the fuel bowl heater was disconnected and won't fully seat to lock in place. The truck starts and runs with it disconnected, but I'm wondering if that would cause it to stall eventually. I can't understand why it wont seat to click in place.

Finally got it plugged back in. Don't know what was stopping it from clicking in place. After reading up on it, doesn't sound like that would cause the stalls. Oh well. Guess ill get another new CPS from the dealer on Monday and go from there.

Well I got the answer on the CPS. It wasn't the problem. Made it a whole 2 miles this morning before truck died with no restart again. Of course because of a crash it took 20 minutes to make it the 2 miles. Anyway, think I'm gonna get the HPOP seal kit from international and the IPR seal kit as well. Hopefully that will take care of it. Any other ideas?

You aren't getting any SES light or other indications at all?

Nothing at all. I noticed it seemed harder than normal to start. And seems to be low on power when I first take off after start up.

Does that sound like low oil pressure to you? Maybe IPR?

Does it start better cold than it does when it's warmed up? That can be a sign of bad IPR o-rings.

I haven't noticed that, but I really didn't get to start it again after it was warmed up, because it doesn't start after it dies until a while later. It started right up this evening after sitting all day where it died.

Is there much to go wrong on the IPR other than the o-rings? Is there any way to bench test it?

So it was warm when it died, then wouldn't restart? That does seem to point toward o-rings. Either IPR o-rings or injector o-rings. I'd definitely start with IPR o-rings since it's the easiest and least expensive

I don't know of any way to test an IPR. It can get an accumulation of debris in it and become slow to react to pressure change commands from the PCM. They can be disassembled and cleaned if you're extremely careful to reassemble it exactly as it came apart. There are several videos on You Tube on doing it.
