1987 F-150 wiring problems
I have searched everywhere to find a wiring diagram or picture that shows the wiring on my 1987. Everything I look at shows fuel relays high pressure pumps. Inerta switchs. This is simply what I have. Not getting fuel to carb.
At the box mounted on the fender well (drivers side). I have a orange, purple, green and black coming out. There is also a red and a white going toward the fire wall out of the same box. I also have a round plug with a cover on it. That has a red and a green wire going into it.
I can not find the self test plug the intera switch or the fuel relay. There is no high pressure pump. There is a fuel valve in the frame rail on the drivers side.
Please somone help me figure how to test the fuel pumps.

OK 5.8L does not have an electric fuel pump.
Your fuel pump should be mounted on the side of the engine.
Your fuel tank selector switch on the dash just turns on and off a solenoid valve on the frame. The solenoid valve then send the fuel from the selected tank to the engine fuel pump.
It also selects the fuel tank sender in the tank to go to the gauge on the dash.

What I am or am not getting is. There is no fuel to the carb while turning over. The truck tries to start with a little gas poured in the carb. To bring you up to speed. Just recently purchased the truck. Would not turn over with the key. Installed a new ignition switch. And now will turn over with the key also heater and wipers and radio all work. It will try starting with key if a little gas is poured in it.
Would the tank control value cause this.
Or what would your suggestion be?

Other things would be if someone put a filter in between the pump and the tank. The filter should be next to or screwed into the carb.
You could also have junk in both tanks and the sock plugged up. If the truck sat for a long, long time the sock filter in the tanks could be coated over.
edit
Come to think of it the tank valve on the frame could also be plugged. You might try blowing air through it.

Thank you for all your help. As it warms, we will check the things that you suggested before changing the fuel pump.
Before talking with you. I was becoming extremely fustrated. I would check for all the possible causes to this problem to no avail. Switchs were no where to be found. relays were non-exsisting but suppose to be there. 15 different locations for the intera switch. And the high pressure pump was even stolen off the frame rail !!!!
So thank you o very much again

None of the items you pointed out above are on a carb trucks fuel system other than the fuel tank selector switch.
I have the same system as you have on two of my trucks.
One other truck I have only has one fuel tank so it does not have the selector switch or the solenoid valve and the fuel tank is behind the drivers seat in the cab. It is a 1977.
All three of trucks have the same Ignition system that you have.
