in the early days, they werent VIN numbers, but Serial numbers, of the transmission and motor assembly. Ford would assemble a motor and tranny, and break it in, after it passed, a serial number was stamped into the tranny (or motor on some 4 cylinders), the assembly was then shipped off to storage, and eventually into a car. After it was installed in a car, someone then hand stamped the number from the tranny into the frame rail. Yes, this does mean that two cars with sequential serial numbers could have actually been built months apart, just thier motors were built in line.
interstingly, the 54 prefix wasnt nomally used until 1937 v8-60 models. and the rest of your serial does fall into the 37 range for 54 prefix v8 60 number. Not sure if a 34 PU would fit a 37 frame or not tho.
