Hi all, im looking for the swing in mirrors for a 79, currently have the tri pod type. But they make it hard getting in and out of my garage, so I would like to convert to a swing in type. Who sources these mirrors? I looked on dc site, but didn't see them. thanks.

 

Try Jeffs Bronco Graveyard, NPD, LMC, ebay... but they are not exactly swing in easy like newer vehicle mirrors, they do swing in, they are a little stiff about it.

thanks scott79, im going to get new ones from jbg for $50. I live on the west coast in Canada, just a little easier doing it this way. love the bronco by the way. ive had 4 79 broncos over the years. now I just got this perfect 79 f350 a few days ago.

 

No problem, they are good guys and will take good care of ya...Thanks, I have a few of them--probably too many!! Do yourself a favor and get the hand nut riveter. It makes the install pretty simple, no drilling!! The riveter punches the sleeve into the door. Just measure twice before pulling the trigger!!

You can never have to many OEM type 9's. Heck I might be interested in a spare set, especially since ol silver's passenger side took a wacking from the car port frame the tornado but on it.

 

I was referring to "bronco's" not mirrors, but I have a few of them also--used ones that I have pulled off to replace them with the NOS mirrors I bought!!

Here you go Terry...Ok, its been a crazy day, and of course there's no drilling cause I already had holes in my the doors...Not sure what in the world I was thinking--sorry about that, my mind was elsewhere as I was typing!! Anyways, just make sure you have measured your height to the top of the door as well as your front to back location. Then once you have the correct location, just use a sharpie to mark the holes (use the holes in the bracket and trace them-inside the hole). Drill your holes to the size of your sleeve. THEN you use the hand nut riveter to insert the sleeves...If you need measurements just PM me and I will get them for you!!

There are FOUR different Type 9 mirrors.

Since all outside mirrors were dealer installed and dealers installed whatever they had in stock, you cannot go by the parts catalog applications.

The two most common:

D4TZ-17696-A .. Stainless Steel with 5 1/4" x 8 1/4" mirror head (D4TZ-17723-A). FLAT upper & lower mounting brackets.

Upper bracket has (2) mounting holes on a 2 3/4" bolt center. Lower bracket has (2) mounting holes on a 2.00" bolt center. Span between the brackets is 7 19/32."

Type 8 Recreational (Tripod) mirrors introduced in 1975: The goose necked mirror head can be folded over, then swung around to change the view.
