So a buddy of mine and I dropped a 4.2 he rebuilt into his ranger to replace the 4.0 that was in it with 200k miles on the clock. Well as it would have it the 4.2 threw a rod 10k ish miles into it. Now it has a 5.0 and were putting the final touches on it. I just finished tig welding the egr tube hopefully for the last time. The same truck we ditched the leaf springs and put a full on custom air ride on the rear, changed the rear end to a posi with an axle swap in the process too. Before he blew it up it rode like a Cadillac with plenty of power in a little truck, the only thing lacking was the big mpg he was hoping for he did gain mpg but only to a consistent 16-18... It's going to be a bit insane now since he rebuilt the 5.0 to a mild 350-400 hp with a nice set of AFR heads he bought. We had to completely redo the custom 316 ss exhaust I built from the headers to the muffler which is all mandrel bent. That power and torque should be a lot of fun. Mpg is hoping to be in the low to mid 20s when he can keep his foot out of it since the engine shouldn't be working hard. Future plans are a 6 speed trans. Only a couple stupid things are left for now until it's on the road.
We need pictures of said truck and welding ****....

I'll see what I can do. I didn't take any pictures of anything while we were building anything. I'd hate to embarrass you guys with my welds lol. Honestly it just looks like your every day ranger. Not a single thing on it says hey look at me. I'll see if he took any during the process. I can take pictures of completed here soon.

Here's a few I laid awhile ago, welding **** for you. Not the greatest but not too bad. Believe it or not the tig weld was done with a 110 buzz box.

Nice work John!

I have a trailer in my barn right now that is literally kicking my butt. Hoping it is done by the weekend so I can start/finish the ceiling and hold some heat in. Still have wire to pull for outlets and the hoist.....not enough time in the day and throw being sick for the last week has not helped. May not be this weekend for a ceiling at this point.....

I don't have any pictures of it but here's a few he sent me while we were working on the rear suspension. It's hard to tell in the Pictures what's going on because of the shiny black pain but look closely and you'll see it all.

I'm not exactly sure what it came from. He's had the engine sitting around for years. He has a 400 for another project that would leave you scratching your head if you seen the engine.

The distributorless ignition limits what it comes from, I think the Explorer might be the only choice. I know it's one of the more desirable production 5.0 blocks to start a build.

Nice welds... but whoever is in charge of the spray paint should have their painters license revoked..
