New England has so many rocks hidden in the soil may be that is the reason for not going underground with the utilities.

We have a mix in this area. Generally if you live in town, natural gas is available. Outside of town, fuel oil, propane and wood. I choose to heat with wood but I have a propane fired, hot air furnace. Most oil burners are boilers and that works great with hot water baseboard. Baseboard heat can also be gas fired boilers and outside wood furnaces can be either hot water baseboard or forced air. Geothermal is starting to show up too.

Shawn, all of the connections are above ground. Single cable below ground.

ours was cut in half when we upgraded ours... the old one was either on or off... and wasnt as efficient as the new one.. new ones continuous circulation so its helped to even out the house a little bit... and doesnt go to full power unless its needed... it runs in 3 stages.. Low circulation which only uses about 10%.. when it needs more itll run up to 50%.. which 99% of the time thats all it needs... but in some cases it ramp up to 100%.. but its rare if it does...

I believe that is the reason. Our utilities are overhead and in New housing developments, they are underground.

theyve burried as much of them as they have em above around here... only time they come above ground is for distribution boxes or to the long transmission poles... ntm another reason i hate that theyre buried is they run through all the yards in the neighborhood here... i literally cant put anything in the ground here without hitting one of them... Id like to have an inground pool but cant for that very reason...

There is a Utilities Locator Service that marks them with one call within 24 hours, free.

that they do.. but ya dont understand.. Imagine playing 50 games of tic-tac-toe then laying them all ontop of each other then scattering those games in there entirety across the yard... thats what my yard looked like last time they marked ours... the lines cross cross all over the place throughout my yard...

I do understand the utilities are all over. electricity and water is four feet. Cable, telephone, and gas are at 10" and nothing is located in any landscaping. Before digging call first. I have never severed a utility.

I have also a map of the yard that everything is drawn in as to its depth and location.
