TPMS sensor question

Hey guys, got a question on how our sensors work. When I ordered my truck I stayed with the 18's as I didn't like either of the 20" options this time around. (Loved the 20's I ordered on my 09.) Now, I am considering a set of new/take off Platinum wheels and tires for when my 18's are done. I know there are cheaper aftermarket options out there but I'm a fan of stock looking bolt on's and really like the Platinum rims. So, can I just transfer the sensors from my 18's to the Platinum rims? Where are they, on the inside of the wheel at the valve stem? Any help would be appreciated...

They are on the inside of the valve stem and you can transfer them no problem. You can also buy a new set on the cheap on ebay.

Rodney,

Before you pull the trigger to buy, make sure that you can get the calibration done for those new wheels. Seems like I remember someone else here that did what you are intending on doing, but 3.55 rear-end and 20" wheels were incompatible and threw a light on the dash. Or maybe it was the other rear-end and 20" I dont remember anymore.

Thanks Andre. As for the 3.55's and 20" it was a factory option. Maybe I just have to have a dealer make a change? Anyone know more on this???

Dealer will have to reprogram, but provided you choose a tire size that was offered with the 20" wheel combination and 3:55 rear end, you will be fine. It's putting 38's on there and expecting it to work that causes the problem...lol. A MiniMaxx can reprogram for the different wheel overall diameter...just saying

Andre, the tires will be a stock size as they are also new take offs that came on the rims. It's a complete OEM 20" tire and wheel setup off a 2013 Platinum minus the sensors. Will I need a trip to the dealer for this or am I ok with this scenario?

excellent. maybe it was the 3.31 rear end and 20's that are not a factory option.

I think you will have to reprogram unless the overall tire diameters are the same, but if it is a diameter offered with the 3:55, it will be easy to do. For example, if you use a LT 275 65 R20 tire on those Platinum wheels, you are good to go. That's what was on my truck stock. Do you know what size tires are on the Platinum wheels and your current wheels?

You can program the 20s with 3.31 gears but it will set a CEL. 20s were only available with 3.55 gears. Swapping factory sized 20s for your 18s will only require a trip to the dealer so they can reprogram the tire size if you have 3.55 gears. Not really a big deal.

Either that or I buy a new 2015 Platinum but on that front the wife gave me a big negative. I told her it was for the bigger back seats on a crew cab. She said our daughter is 22 lbs and fits fine in a super cab...

See you have to work this right. I used to have a extended cab and my wife was the one that said we needed a crew cab. Wait until your daughter is in a booster seat or you get a second one. It will come...enjoy the new wheels!

I like the light on my dash, makes me feel like somehow I'm going against one more stupid thing the Government is forcing me to do. 80 PSI in the rear running empty, come on, are you kidding me! Programmer would be nice to work around that, someday...
