Yeah, before i try to do any patching on my bed, i'm gonna try to find a bed with no rust. they are kinda hard to find. one of my friends just found one and got a heck of a deal on it. He got it for 60 bucks. wish i could get that lucky.
Don't forget to change gas tanks. long box and short box tanks are different.
Long tank won't fit , not enough room under cab floor for extra tank length.
Buy a short box truck and put your cab and other good parts on it.
Chris
IC, i didnt know they were different. The more I find out about this I'm thinking maybe I dont want to put this much work into it,lol. Maybe i'll just buy patch panels for the rust. Has anyone istalled the patch panels? If so, let me know how they are to install.
If any of you have the Sept. 2000 issue(I think thats it,I will check and post again)of Four Wheeler Magazine, the red Ford on the cover was a 1-ton longbed. Now it is a shortbed flareside. I haven't had a chance to talk to him and how he did it, but I will soon. I plan on the same thing. The only problem that I know of is he used a half ton cab for some reason and the vin with it. So now it is only rated as a half ton and isn't street legal here in Missouri. It is too high. If he would have left the 1-ton cab on it, he would have been fine. It is GORGEOUS! I pass it ever day to school and almost wreck ever time. I wish he would store it. I would hate to see the weather get it.
yeap it sure would be. almost everyone has a car or truck that is not ford mostly those gmc trucks droppred with 20's i guess they all copy each other. anyways have you ever seen the guy peeing on chevy? i made one with the most common logs of the other cars. and in the shirt of the guy is the ford logo im going to try to get some one to put it in a decal for my truck.
I'd just leave the frame alone. Cutting it would be too much of a pain in the rearend. Just find you a good longbed and drop it on. Plus cutting and welding together a shorter frame weakens it and lowers the capabilities of the truck.
How much would be too much to spend on a good rust free long bed??? I want to buy one, but I dont really know how much to give for one. Any help would be great
oh, dang, NC is pretty far for me, and I dont know anyone from there, or going there. a rust free bed sure would be nice, i just wish it werent so far.
