Birthday Present Not Starting

While my dad is away for the weekend, I decided to get our old bronco started again. It has been sitting for about 4 years. He installed basani exhaust from the headers to tail pipe and didn't get the flange spacers for the headers to downpipe so it had bad exhaust leak and also replaced the a/c condenser but didnt have the right connection to pressurize the system. So he stopped running it, hence the 4 year sitting in the driveway.

While he was away for the weekend and his bday coming up I decided to get it running again. I installed the flange spacers for the exhaust, changed the oil, replaced the spark plugs and wires. I also bought some fuel injector and fuel system cleaner. and checked all rubber, vacuum hoses and other fluids. plus a new battery. It turned over with a little starting fluid sprayed into the air intake, but wont hold an idle and dies unless i constantly rev the engine to 2000 rpms. I have tried multiple times, to see if it is the engine just needing to warm up, but still no idle.

I am thinking i should replace the rotator cap, any other suggestions? im already about $200 into it not trying to go much further I just want it to run.

Ps i did mix in about 2 gallons of new gas, and it is below the 1/4 tank of gas.

thanks guys

What year, What engine? I wouldn't even try to start it with any 4 year old gas in it what ever it is. It's prolly mostly water by now and may do more damage.

Drain the tank. Put in new fuel and filters. Check the fuel pressure. Ya may have to drop the tank and clean it and the fuel pump pickup screen thing.

Check the fuel pressure. I would suspect it needs a new fuel pump, there's a valve in the fuel pump body that goes bad and the whole fuel pump needs to be replaced. It's pricey so start saving up for it. Get one at Ford, it's worth it.

Something cheap and easy is the Fuel pressure regulator, it's on the fuel manifold. Take it off to see if it's wet.

Or just let the truck sit until your dad gets in the mood.
