help with trouble codes.

new to the forum here, but i just got a 99' expedition e.b. edition, with 5.4 tritan and awd.

have the 4x4 light flashing while in awd setting. when it is switched to 4hi or 4low it doesnt flash and 4wd works as it should.

took it to my cousins shop, pulled codes of P1874 and C1107.

does anyone know which sensor is for the p1874 that causes the 4x4 light to flash? and is the c1107 for sure the rear abs sensor?

he also pulled something that said door switch error, circuit shorted to ground on passenger side. my dome light and running board lights do not come on when any doors are opened. so where do i start with that? lol

any help would be great, and thanks in advance! dont want to buy a bunch of sensors if i dont have to. just put lower ball joints and changed the oil today. ready to get this thing back to cherry!

Just changing sensors isn't gonna get to the source of your issue. Flashing 4X4 light could be caused by the A4WD clutch relay circuitry, the transfer case electric clutch, or the GEM, amoung other things.

First thing you should have them check is fuse #23 in the CBJ (Central Junction Box) and fuse #104 in the BJB (Battery Junction Box). Fuse 104 supplies power to the transfer case shift relays while fuse 23 supplies power to the TOD (Torque On Demand) relay. The GEM module supplies a pulse width modulated signal to the magnetic clutch coil with in the transfer case to vary the amount of torque transfered to the front axle.

The most likely cause for the 1874 code is either a problem with the wiring from the GEM module to the front or rear transfer case speed sensor or its a faulty speed sensor.

Like pdqford pointed out, to know for sure tests will have to be done. But if you're looking for a quick fix and want to take a stab at it, then the most likely culprit is the speed sensor on the rear of the transfer case.

The C1107 is an ABS code that sometimes shows up as a ghost code when there is an issue with one of the speed sensors. Solving the P1874 code should take care of the C1107 code. If it doesn't then disconnect the battery for a few minutes to reset the GEM and clear the code.

ok, thanks. my cousin said he thought the abs code could be what you said also. he has a genisys scan tool, so we are going to see if we can get readings from the sensors next time i am over there to be sure. thanks for the help guys.
