Info on my new '87 F600

Hi, I just picked up a 1987 F600 truck. It has a GVWR of 22,000, a 5+2, and from what I've been reading it sounds like it has the 6.6 L diesel in it. I was wondering where I can get technical information on this. It came with no manual.

What oil and fuel filter do you run in your 6.6? I haven't looked at the one on the engine yet, but an online search shows two different of each. For example one search tells me a FRAM PH7014 oil filter, and a different source tells me to use a PH5xxx filter (can't remember the exact#). So I don't know for sure what is correct, and even looking on my engine I don't know it's the correct one.

This truck is a gutless dog, but that's OK and was to be expected from what I've read. It does run, drive and brake great. The heat is very weak, and the speedometer doesn't work and I will probably only drive this truck about 3,000 miles a year. I can get 60 MPH in 5 HI, running about 2500 RPM. The best part - I only gave $1,000 for it, probably worth more than that at the metal recycler with scrap vehicles at $240/ton. The steer tires are like brand new and the rears are good enough. It has a pintle hitch hooked to the frame and a 12' flatbed on it. I will be swapping the bed from my F-350, which is a 12' stakebed and has an ICC bumper and trailer receiver mount built into it.

Any info or thoughts to share?

good buy at 1000.

That 6.6L is not a powerhouse, but it should be pretty powerful in a light truck such as the one you've described.. Definitely check the fuel and air filters out. There are probably 2 fuel filters, that would be why you've got 2 numbers there.. Ones usually pre lift pump then the others after. 1 highly useful gauge that I always install on my equipment is a fuel vacuum to keep tabs on the suction filter..

The oil of choice would be Chevron's Delo in 15-40.

Have fun..

That's real cool. Should not be too slow when it's empty. Back out the fuel screw, and it'll wake up a bit.
