why does my clear inline fuel filter drain down over night 79 351m-holley

It's pretty common, the mechanical fuel pump does have an anti-drainback valve but it will not hold that pressure more than a day.

I believe it should never really be "full" so to speak. Where do you have it positioned, right by the manifold/coil/just short of the carb?

Is it causing starting problems?

not causing start probs.-fills right up when cranked- truck has many issues

Well I have the same clear filter and it is not always "full" either on initial start. But it does fill up right after it fires off.
