The trailer has a 7500 GVWR. If I want to do a +/-15% tongue weight which has been recommended for a travel trailer loaded up that would be 1125lbs. That's why I want to go with the 1250 hitch.

The sg2 (or most other odb2 gauge) will
Let you monitor a number of sensors on your truck.
Plus it is easily movable to another vehicle!
The advantage of ras over airbag iis the ras
is progressive and helps keep the rear springs
arched to reduce rear spring wrap which causes
rear wheel steer. Plus you can adjust it to tweak
it using a 12mm wrench to get it the way you like.
have onboard compressor w/airbags is great,
But i don't like all the extra plumbing and hw
especially if you have snow and salt in winter.
Just my .02.

Side question, would this grill fit my 2000 X?

It says it's for a 99 to 2000 Ford super duty.

!!!! 99-04 Ford superduty BRUSH GUARD

Taking longer than I thought to leave on our trip.

I'm taking this time to better plan our rig load out. I didn't think we had time time to do a few of these upgrades. If it were up to me we'd already have done all the upgrades on my list, but I don't pull much weight in the decision making area and so far the answer to RAS, Helwig Sway bar, Air Bags and Red Head steering box has been "We're going to trying it out stock, and seeing if we need it." However I will be getting the 08' mirror upgrade and I bought the Prodigy p3, so I'm not getting skunked...

I'm thinking about the springs. These are the codes on them:

Front
YC35ACD
RPN2339

Rear
RPN2339
YC35 GC

What do I want and how do I get them?

Also, the tag on my rear axle says:
3 PM 421 ß
L30 10 5 9J16
I jacked it up and spin the wheel once and the drive line turned about 4-1/2 times.
What rear ratio do I have?
Thanks

Okay, checked the interweb and found a way to tell I have CG springs. Also I guess the codes I gave were basically pointless for determining what codes I have.

I was reading another thread and the process for changing out the springs sounds like way more than I'm willing to take on. If taking off the bumper is easier, than I don't want to know what's hard. I was considering this as an alternative to RAS or a rear sway bar, but both those could e done in an hour with my experience level.

Blah blah, I'm sure I'm sounding all flip floppy like a politician about four posts ago, so I digress. Ill just try to get the RAS and Helwig Sway bar on there...

Still wondering what ratio I have in the rear dif... Interweb, here I come...

It sounds like you have the much desired 4.30:1 rear gears.

I know a lot of people here like RAS but I have to say that Airbags in my Ex made a world of difference with my truck. Tows my ~8000lb TT like a dream.

That's one thing I may add at some point, I like the idea of having an onboard air compressor. From what I've read a high trailer like a travel trailer towed completely different from a low trailer like my 1.5 ton utility trailer or the 6 ton equipment trailers I've towed in the past.

Unfortunately for now all the family is going to allow is the 4 way sway control load equalizing hitch we already bought.

I am surprised to read the EX pulls so poorly. I guess I will have to hook the travel trailer to my wifes and see how it pulls we always pull it with my f350.

It actually pulls nicely stock, we're all just improving upon it. I'm doing so because I plan to drive with a family of 6 in the rig so in being picky about comfort and safety. I've seen people tow 13,000+lbs comfortably. However Ill admit its nothing like my 04' 2500 5.9 Cummins Ram at 20,000 lbs rated.

Update:

The X tows our 30+ foot TT well as far as I can tell from what my father in law says. (I've been driving the Motorhome) We did no upgrades accept the Takunsha P3 and a 4way sway control. Oh, and a K&N air filter.

What I can't understand is the 6-7 mpg were getting. Both rigs are getting that mpg with identical engines. The X is 8k plus the 7k trailer so 15k. The motorhome is 25k easy with the 16 cargo trailer. I'm going to 5star the motorhome when I get around to it, but the X should be getting better right?

Y pipe a 5 star tuner and maybe the zoo dad mod could assist in the power/ mpg department.however your moving 15 k pounds around. Just so your aware the v10 trans cooler is larger than the 7.3 coller yet smaller than the 6.0.

I have been thinking of doing 5star tunes on my wife's 5.4 ex. My research appears to be all positive on them.

I too get an average of 6.5 mpg towing an11.5 foot tall 9200lb TT 17k lbs combined. I got the 5 star tuner and Y pipe in the spring and it is money well spent!

When you say money well spent, do you mean it will or has paid for itself? Or is it the peace of mind knowing you have that bit of extra power?

I'm looking at doing mods that will pay for themselves. Right now with the X and our motorhome with the same V10 we're paying about $1/mile to drive. I was hoping to cut that to closer to $0.75/mile...or more
If possible.
