backfires when cold
I have a 1989 F700 with a 429 and when it is cold it back fires and stalls several times until it warms up. Then it runs fine. I am thinking it may be the ignition module. Any suggestions?

I replaced the Ignition Module on my 91 and it still does the exact thing that yours does. But this did fix it cutting off when it got hot. Let me know if you get yours fixed. On a side note, what kind of muffler do you have on yours? I need to replace mine and want to put one on it that will not blow up when it backfires.

If it has a carb, check that the choke is closing when it's cold. Pull the air cleaner, tap the gas pedal, and make sure that the choke butterfly is almost all the way closed.
If it's fuel injected, check the temp sensors, without the right inputs, the computer won't richen up the mixture enough to make it run right when cold.
