Question Your comments please!!

Hello all! I have a `92 F150 supercab , 8 foot box , 155" wheelbase, Roughrider Radial AT`s , LT235 75 R 15 , load range "C" ; truck specs are : 302 , E4OD trans, 3.55LS rear, new coils springs, all new ball joints , new HD shocks, new brakes. This truck runs excellent , in very good shape.According to the owners` manual , the truck can tow up to 7700 lbs. with this configuration. My wife and I bought an `87 prowler 24 foot Travel Trailer , in great shape , weighs in at around 4200 lbs. dry. Also just picked up a reese sway control and reese spring bars. The hitch is a reese class 3/4 , 7000 lbs. when used without weight distribution , 12000 lbs with weight disribution.I am using it w/out weight distribution.

Anyone foresee anything I may have overlooked? Are longer wheelbases more stable during towing?

Please reply!!
Thanks in advance ,
Sty

The longer wheelbase is more stable while towing, but I would use the WDH with your setup.

You didn't mention if you already had a brake controller. That's a necessity, not an option! Ditto John's comment on the WD hitch. If you got the spring bars for the hitch, I would definately use them.

Welcome to the Towing forum!

Thank you horsepuller and johnsdiesel ! I will definitely use the spring bars , and I just put in an electric brake controller . I haven`t towed it yet , but am looking forward to the experience. The old 19 foot we had was an easy tow, but had no spring bars or sway control , just the electric brake controller. OK up to 50 MPH , but anything over that , she would sway. 40 MPH if cross winds. Thank you for the help , this is an awesome place to meet people and get the best advice!

I'd add a huge tranny cooler. Also, the 302 will work hard. Don't be in any hurry.

Ditto on the tranny cooler. They are readily available and easy to install. Since that 302 is going to be working hard, you might want to think about adding additional coolers as well. I installed a radiator, tranny, and engine oil cooler on my 79 1-ton. It can be expensive, but it's not that hard.
