1985 f250 6.9L diesel issues

hey guys just purchased an 85 f250 6.9l diesel with auto trans 3gear. i am having issues with it shutting off. after it warms up its fine driving down the road but from park to drive it bogs down and seems like its starving for fuel also when i brake for stop signs and red lights it wants to shut off so i have to put it in neutral and feed it before taking off. please help i am new to the diesel world. Pre-Power Stroke Diesel (7.3L IDI & 6.9L) - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums Here is a link to the page for your engine, probably better to ask the guys there. Good luck.

You might need to bump your idle if it wants to die just going into drive or stopped in gear. What is your idle speed if you have a tach in your truck?

could be sucking a tiny bit of air in the fuel. at higher speed it can handle it, but at lower speed it tries to airlock. you can try temporarily installing some clear fuel line before the injection pump, then look for bubbles with it idling. unless someone has been frigging with the pump, idle shouldn't really change. replace the fuel filters to be sure they are not half plugged
