Quad Racer has it covered really.. my '99 had broken manifold studs and spit 2 plugs in the time i owned it. just make sure the spark plugs are torqued -exactly- to spec, as i'm sure you've read if you've done any digging on the issue. being an '01, 2wd, and small tires the 5.4 should do what you need it to power-wise. my '99 was a slug with less horsepower than yours and 35" tires, despite having factory 4.10 gears. loved the truck though.
hopefully you don't find out for yourself, but from experience i can tell you the super duty platform is nice to work on compared to alot of late-model vehicles. for example i feared the worst when i had to replace the heater core, which ended up begin a matter of merely dropping the glove box out.
