Finally bought a Cummins

Okay, Okay, before you get all upset its not what you think. Just thought I would show you all what I have been working on lately. 1983 AM General M931 5 ton 6 X 6 tractor with a naturally aspirated Cummins NHC250. The water at the lake is getting so low and the sand is getting so deep my F350 is just getting beat up towing my stuff down to the water. Our government has been auctioning these off all around the country for ridiculously low prices. The mechanical condition of this rig is amazing. The engine looks and drives like new. The Allison 5 speed transmission shifts perfectly. All the fluids and filters were new. We changed the engine oil and transfer case oil, and the front differential, just because they looked a little used. The front passenger axle seal started leaking after the drive home so got that taken apart this weekend with parts on the way. The front bearings, races, brake shoes, drums and axle shaft u-joints were all completely new. There are lots of other new parts as well. This was not the prettiest girl in the lot, but man has she been well taken care of. My 5th wheel trailer hooks right up to the tractor hitch. Sweet!

Needs some new batteries.

and here is one of the 2.5 ton M35A2 conversion to a tractor. Multi-fuel engine from 1966.

So that's why I haven't been here I've been paying attention to these two trucks. How much fun can one guy have.......

That is too sweet! Is your trailer a camper? If so you have to post a pic hooked to that beast.

I have a small, 27' 5th Wheel RV. Yeah, I'll get a picture of that next weekend. The cool thing is the 5 ton has power steering and an automatic transmission. The 2.5 ton is all manual, no power steering, its a work out driving that thing. The 5 ton drives as easy as my F350.

You get a full ration of 'man points' for those trucks. Impressive!

There is a long story behind the deuce and a half that was converted from a M35A2 Cargo to a M48 Tractor. I'm still waiting to hear the whole thing. A guy in South Dakota did the restoration and let me tell you it is a nice truck.

The one that I'd like to have (but no room) would be an M-246 wrecker. Not only does it have a fifth-wheel platter, but a 10-ton crane on it.

They're sweet!

Nice rig. I have a 1970 deuce & it's a lot of fun. Took it to a tractor show last weekend & gave it a workout pulling out stuck trucks after a flooding rain.

Agreed. I couldn't count how many times I have looked at those wreckers on liquidation websites. Maybe someday.

Yeah, we did get the mud flap fixed! Then we lost it again down at the lake, forgot to take them off when we were cruising around one night. Fortunately we retraced our route and found it.

Here's the cool thing. In New Mexico, NO CDL REQUIRED. Upgrade the drivers lic. to class E which allows you to drive vehicles over 26,000lbs and register it as an RV. I just had a friend complete all the paper work and its all registered and legal. I'm waiting for my title so I can go get it done.

The deuce has two spring loaded seats that actually work really well. The 5 ton has a spring loaded seat for the driver but a bench seat for passengers, yeah its a little rough.
