Leaking Windshield

i was washing my truck the other day, and after i washed the top of the cab i looked inside the truck, lo and behold the windshield was leaking!! i dont know if its fairly easy to fix myself or if i need to take it to a pro? but i definitely dont wanna just use caulking... any tricks for a fix?

Take it to a pro. You'll be hard pressed to do this yourself in my experience. It's a tough job to get the trim pieces off the outside and the windshield out to re-seal it without breaking the glass. FWIW, most auto insurance will cover glass replacement without a deductible and it usually doesn't count against you as a claim. It might be worth checking into.

Check cab lights, but I'll bet anything it's the seal between the windshield and the steel frame.
I've had 3 trucks leak there, all got new windshields.
1 was so bad the steel around the windshield had more holes from rust than there was steel. I had to sign a waiver for them to even put a windshield back in it, and I had to spend 1/2 hour after they pulled the glass out with a wire wheel, abrasive disks, etc to try and clean it as good as possible for the new urethane to even stick to anything.

Good luck.

This really blows, that black stuff is a nightmare.

I've got a leaky windshield also, but my plan is to pull the metal trim and use the windshield sealer in/around the leaky area. I just don't want to pull a nearly new windshield if I don't have to.

Good luck! I hope that does it for you.

Not necessarily. The roof of the cab is two layers. It is possible that the water is running down in between the layers and coming out around the windshield or the A pillar.

I like to seal the bolt holes and then do a thin layer around the outside base of the light

I tried just gooping the urethane in the gap around the windshield, too.
The problem is the surface you are asking the urethane to stick to (paint) is most likely peeled or peeling away from the steel already and won't seal anything. That's what I ran into, anyway, and only fix was to pull glass, grind paint to bare metal, re-paint with cool black windshield frame paint and new glass install.

You might buy some time filling that gap, but it won't actually 'fix' anything.

I found 3 old holes next to the cab lights. Somebody must've gotten new ones with different spacing. They didn't even think to deal the holes. I did though. Hopefully this solves it!

Gonna wash it today. See if sealing the old holes worked. I'm gonna be really upset if it ends up being the windshield !
