Question Gibson Headers Application Help

Hello All,

I'm in the process of swapping a 302 HO from a 1990 Mustang GT into my 1980 Jeep CJ7. The engine is mated to a Borg Warner T18 4spd. from a 1985 F150 w/ a I6. The bell housing is from the same truck with a mount for an external slave cylinder. Unfortunately the driver's side stock Mustang header dumps right out on the slave cylinder. In F-series pickups from this era I believe the stock manifold took this in to account and the driver's side manifold dumped further towards the front of the vehicle to avoid conflicts with the slave cylinder. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I've been looking at Gibson Performance headers for the 87-96 5.0 F-series. They state they are a drop in replacement for stock manifolds. If F-series trucks during the 87-96 era used an external slave cylinder then I believe the headers should work in my application. Does anyone know if 87-96 F-series trucks used an external slave cylinder? Is anyone running these headers in their truck w/ a slave cylinder? My other question is what changed from an 86 model year F150 302 to a 87 model year F150 302 that would prevent the headers from working with the 86 model year truck. Sorry for the long post. I would greatly appreciate any help you all can provide. I apologize if you find it off-topic.

Thanks,
Lee

86 model vs 87 model was possibly a carb/efi difference. There seems to be a little concusion as the EFI swap wasn't standard, it was an option so some vehicles had it and some didn't.

Gibson Headers Application Help

Thanks for the info. Maybe their headers are only designed for fuel injected trucks.

Anyone else have any feedback?
